Held over the early May bank holiday. Saturday-Monday. Jack-in-the-Green, a seven foot high character, who is traditionally woken at dawn on May Day from his slumber on Bluebell Hill and then travels to Rochester to start the festivities - the biggest gathering of Morris dancers in the country. The festival now attracts thousands of revelers. Groups perform at various venues, continuing through the evenings in local pubs. Big procession on Monday at 14:45 leaves the Rochester Castle area, and makes it's way along the High Street. It is considered lucky to be kissed by a sweep or Morris man. Pictures taken 05 May 2008.
