SKANDIA COWES WEEK, ISLE OF WIGHT
Annual event, usually held in early in August. The largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world, with 40 daily races. Over 1,000 boats and 8,500 competitors from world class to weekend sailors. 100,000 spectators watch the sailing, enjoy the parties and unique atmosphere. Regatta Village in Cowes Yacht Haven off the High Street in West Cowes - an ideal place to enjoy a drink and soak up the atmosphere. Live music on the water's edge. Cowes Esplanade provides a good view of the racing. Highlight for many is the last Friday - typical line-up: 18:00 Formation fly-past by the ex-Red Arrows Gnat and the Sea Vixen, followed by a 10 minute display by the Sea Vixen, 19:30 Red Arrows aerobatic display, 20:00 RNLI rescue demonstration, 21:30 Massive free fireworks display, set to music.
